FAQs

Most visitors drive between Kathmandu and Pokhara in a single long day and see the road as something to get through. This trip breaks the journey at Bandipur, a hill town above the highway, and turns a transfer into the part people tend to remember. It is a premium package with premium 4-star hotels throughout: Hotel Barahi Kathmandu on Kantipath, a premium 4-star hotel in Bandipur and Temple Bell Boutique Hotel & Spa on Pokhara's Lakeside, linked by seven days of old architecture, lake light and Nepalese food at a pace that leaves time to look.

It begins in Kathmandu, where a day with your guide covers a selection of the valley's great Hindu and Buddhist landmarks and the way the old city still lives around them. Then the road west. Newar merchants from Bhaktapur made Bandipur a trading stop between India and Tibet, and when the highway was built in the valley below, the town was left behind with its stone-paved bazaar, pagoda roofs and carved lattice windows largely intact.

From Bandipur it is a shorter drive on to Pokhara and Temple Bell Boutique Hotel & Spa, about ten minutes' walk from Phewa Lake, Nepal's second-largest. That evening, a Nepalese cultural dinner with traditional dance is planned, subject to availability. The next day is kept loose on purpose: the lakeside, a boat to the island temple of Tal Barahi, a viewpoint such as the World Peace Pagoda above the lake, and time to sit by the water. The Annapurna range shows itself on clear days, which is never guaranteed.

The return to Kathmandu is by road or, where schedules, fares and luggage make it practical, a short domestic flight, and your quotation states which. The last evening is free for shopping or a relaxed dinner.

The Art of Nepal is a premium package with premium 4-star hotels, a dedicated guide and an air-conditioned vehicle with a professional driver, arranged for your own party on dates you choose. It is quoted on request, and the quotation confirms the room types, meal plan, return transport and which entrance fees are included.

Arrive in Kathmandu

Max 1,400 m

Tribhuvan International Airport → Kathmandu

About 5 hrs from Singapore

Short airport transfer

Hotel Barahi Kathmandu

Check in for Singapore Airlines SQ442 at Changi Airport: on recent schedules it leaves at about 18:50, and the nonstop flight to Kathmandu takes about five hours. You land at Tribhuvan International Airport around 21:30 Nepal time. A representative and driver meet you there; Hotel Barahi Kathmandu, premium 4-star and on Kantipath, is a short drive away.

Immigration and baggage reclaim take a little time after a full flight, so keep your passport, the printed arrival form and US dollars for the visa together in your hand luggage. Once you reach the hotel, check in and rest after the late landing, and set your watch 2 hours 15 minutes behind Singapore time.

Summary: An evening on SQ442 from Changi, a night landing in Kathmandu and a quiet first night at Hotel Barahi Kathmandu before the landmarks and the road west.

Breakfast

After breakfast, explore a selection of Kathmandu's heritage landmarks with your guide. Depending on your interests and the day's conditions, the route may include Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath Stupa or Pashupatinath Temple, all part of the Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Site that UNESCO inscribed in 1979.

Your guide explains how Hindu and Buddhist traditions sit side by side here, from Shiva shrines to the painted Buddha eyes of Swayambhunath, and how the old city's courtyards, temples and markets still shape daily life. Stop for a relaxed lunch, and take your time with the camera, because the light on old brick and carved wood is what many travellers come back for. Return to Hotel Barahi Kathmandu to rest.

Hotel Barahi stands on Kantipath, a minute's walk from the Garden of Dreams and three from Durbar Marg. That puts Thamel close enough to walk into on a first evening and far enough back to sleep through.

There are 80 rooms, among them three junior suites and six that interconnect for families. The Deck, on the roof, serves Nepali and international food beside the pool with the city below and the hills behind it, and there is a spa for the evening a trek ends.

Temple Bell stands at 17 Lakeside, about ten minutes' walk from Phewa Lake and a short drive from the airport, which matters on a trek: you arrive off the mountain, and the lake and its restaurants are on foot rather than another drive away.

There are 55 rooms, from 32 square metre deluxes to 40 square metre suites, finished in carved wood and local stone. Two restaurants, a bar, an outdoor pool, a steam room and a 24-hour gym, and the massages and body treatments are the point of the first evening down from Annapurna.

FAQs

Is this trip right for you

This is a cultural journey with some road travel, not a trek. It suits couples, families, slow travellers and anyone who enjoys old architecture and local life more than ticking off sights. There are three moves on this trip, from Kathmandu to Bandipur, Bandipur to Pokhara and Pokhara back to Kathmandu, and the sightseeing in between is kept deliberately light.

The longest days are on the road. Kathmandu to Bandipur takes five hours or more, and the return from Pokhara is six to seven hours by road unless a domestic flight is practical. If you would rather not spend time in a vehicle, the 5-day Kathmandu Heritage tour stays in one place. If Buddhist heritage draws you, the 9-day Cultural Legacy tour adds Lumbini.

It is a premium package with premium 4-star hotels, arranged for your own party on dates you choose, with a dedicated guide and an air-conditioned vehicle with a professional driver throughout.

Know Before You Go

Your quotation names the Kathmandu and Pokhara hotels, Hotel Barahi Kathmandu and Temple Bell Boutique Hotel & Spa, and confirms the premium 4-star stay in Bandipur at booking. It also confirms in writing the meal plan, whether the return from Pokhara is by road or domestic flight, and which entrance fees and activities are included. Everything on this page assumes daily breakfast only, plus the cultural dinner in Pokhara where available.

Road times in Nepal change with traffic, roadworks and the weather, and the Prithvi Highway between Kathmandu and Pokhara has been under improvement work. We confirm realistic driving times for your dates before the programme is fixed. The cultural dinner and dance in Pokhara is confirmed with the venue before it is guaranteed.

Pack light if you can. You move hotels three times, and if you fly back from Pokhara, domestic airlines have stricter baggage limits than international ones. Nepal's currency is the Nepalese rupee, and Bandipur's small shops and cafés work in cash, so carry some small notes.

Visas & Entry to Nepal

Singapore passport holders can get a Nepal tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. The fee is US$30 for 15 days, US$50 for 30 days and US$125 for 90 days, and the 15-day visa covers this itinerary. Your passport needs at least six months' validity on entry.

Before you fly, complete the online tourist visa form on the Department of Immigration portal, nepaliport.immigration.gov.np, and keep the confirmation with your passport. Bring the fee in US dollars in cash. No trekking or park permits are needed for Bandipur or Pokhara.

The visa fee is not included in the tour price. Rules and fees can change, so check the Department of Immigration shortly before you travel.

Flights from Singapore

Singapore Airlines flies direct between Changi and Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport in about five hours. Recent schedules land in Kathmandu in the evening, which is why Day 1 is kept free. Nepal runs 2 hours 15 minutes behind Singapore, and schedules change by season, so check the current timetable when you book.

International flights are not included. If the return from Pokhara on Day 6 is by domestic flight, it takes about 25 to 30 minutes and is subject to the airline's schedule and weather. We never plan it on the same day as your international departure, which is why Day 6 ends with a night in Kathmandu.

Health & Comfort

Nothing on this route is at a height that needs special preparation. Kathmandu sits at about 1,400 metres and Pokhara at about 820 metres. Viewpoints such as Sarangkot reach about 1,600 metres and are optional. The walking is on stone lanes, temple steps and lakeside paths, so comfortable shoes matter more than fitness.

Hill roads wind, so bring motion-sickness tablets if you are prone to it and sit near the front. Drink bottled or filtered water, and use hand sanitiser before street snacks. Travel insurance that covers medical treatment and cancellation is strongly recommended and is not included.

Culture & Etiquette

Temples, stupas and shrines on this route are places of daily worship. Walk clockwise around stupas and prayer wheels, remove your shoes where asked, and keep shoulders and knees covered at religious sites. Avoid touching offerings or people's heads.

Bandipur is a lived-in town, not a museum, and the houses you admire are people's homes. Ask before photographing anyone, keep voices low in the lanes in the evening, and buy from the small shops and cafés if you want to give something back. A namaste goes a long way.

Your guide explains the meaning of each site and will tell you where photography or entry is not welcome. When in doubt, ask.

Our Support

From your first enquiry, you deal with a team that plans and runs trips in Nepal. We reply with a quotation built around your dates and party, and we tell you plainly what is confirmed and what still depends on road conditions, schedules or supplier availability.

On the ground, your dedicated guide and driver stay with you on every travel and sightseeing day. If a road is blocked or a flight is cancelled, they adjust the plan with our local team, which is reachable throughout your stay.
