Machhapuchhre

Machhapuchhre, meaning fishtail in Nepali, is a 6,993 metre peak in the Annapurna massif whose twin summit resembles a fish's tail when seen from the south or west. It has never been climbed, expeditions to the summit are banned by the Nepal government out of respect for its religious significance, since local communities consider it the home of Lord Shiva. It is one of the most recognisable peaks seen from the Annapurna Base Camp trek, framing the view from Chhomrong, Sinuwa and Machhapuchhre Base Camp.
