Changi Airport

Singapore's international airport, four terminals with a fifth being built

Changi Airport is Singapore's international airport, on the eastern edge of the island in the Changi planning area. Operations moved here from Paya Lebar on 30 June 1981, and Terminal 1 received its first flight the following day. Terminal 2 opened in 1991, Terminal 3 in 2008 and Terminal 4 in 2017, when it began operations with nine foundation airlines. Expansion works at Terminal 2 took three and a half years, and its northern wing began operating on 28 September 2023, raising the airport's capacity to 90 million passengers a year.

Terminal 5 is the next stage. The Ministry of Transport stated in September 2025 that it will be operational in the mid-2030s and will lift annual passenger capacity by more than 50 per cent. For visitors, Changi Airport MRT station (CG2) serves Terminals 2 and 3, link bridges on level 2 of both terminals lead to Jewel Changi Airport, and Terminal 1 connects to Jewel through its arrival hall.

For Singapore residents heading to the Himalaya, Changi is the departure point. Singapore Airlines operates a daily nonstop service to Kathmandu, and Drukair flies between Changi and Paro in Bhutan with a stop in Guwahati, India.
