Himalaya

Himalaya is a small teahouse settlement at about 2,920 metres on the trail between Dovan and Deurali, deep in the Modi Khola gorge. The bamboo forest thins noticeably around this point as the trail climbs toward Deurali and the Hinku Cave, a former shepherds' shelter beside the path.

The Hinku Cave, an overhang beside the trail above Himalaya, was used by shepherds and by the earliest parties into the Sanctuary as shelter before any lodges existed here. The settlement itself is two or three lodges and nothing more. Like Dovan below and Deurali above, it sits in a corridor that avalanches cross in late winter and spring, which is why the whole section is walked early in the day.
