Thani Mai Temple

Thani Mai Temple stands on the hill above Bandipur, the old Newar trading town in Tanahun District. The trail starts near the school at the southwest end of Bandipur's bazaar and climbs steeply for about 30 to 45 minutes to the temple. The hilltop is Bandipur's favourite place to watch the sunrise: on a clear morning the Himalaya lines the horizon, and in the cooler months the valleys below often fill with fog. Most visitors walk up before dawn with a torch and are back in the bazaar for breakfast.
