Trekking in the Manaslu region is one of Nepal’s most rewarding Himalayan experiences. The Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you around Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), the world’s eighth-highest mountain, through a remote and culturally rich landscape of mountain villages, lush forests, deep river valleys, Buddhist monasteries, and dramatic Himalayan scenery. Compared with some of Nepal’s more crowded trekking routes, the Manaslu Circuit offers a more peaceful and authentic journey through the heart of the Himalayas.

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal, following an ancient trail around the spectacular Manaslu massif. The route begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu toward Machha Khola before entering the remote Budhi Gandaki Valley. As the trail gains elevation, the landscape gradually changes from subtropical forests and terraced farmland to alpine meadows, glacial valleys, and rugged Himalayan terrain.

The trek passes through traditional Gurung and Tibetan-influenced villages such as Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Lho, Samagaon, and Samdo. Along the way, trekkers encounter ancient monasteries, prayer wheels, mani walls, suspension bridges, waterfalls, and spectacular views of Mount Manaslu, Himalchuli, Ngadi Chuli, Ganesh Himal, and other Himalayan peaks.

One of the major highlights of the Manaslu Circuit Trek is crossing Larkya Pass (5,106 m), one of the highest and most spectacular mountain passes in Nepal. The challenging ascent is rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of snow-covered peaks and vast Himalayan landscapes. After crossing the pass, the trail descends toward the Marsyangdi Valley and connects with the Annapurna region before completing the circuit.

Designed for adventurous trekkers seeking a combination of challenging mountain terrain, authentic Himalayan culture, and spectacular scenery, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is an excellent alternative to Nepal’s busier trekking routes. The journey combines remote mountain landscapes with comfortable teahouse accommodation, making it possible to experience the Himalayas while staying in traditional local lodges along the route.

Best seasons: March–May for blooming rhododendrons, pleasant temperatures, and clear mountain views. October–November offers some of the best visibility, stable weather, and crisp Himalayan scenery. These seasons are generally considered the best time for the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

A Typical Day on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Breakfast is usually served at your teahouse around 6:30–7:00 am, with options such as dal bhat, eggs, porridge, Tibetan bread, pancakes, tea, or coffee. Most trekking days begin around 7:30–8:00 am, allowing you to make the most of the morning weather and reach the next village comfortably.

A typical day involves approximately 5–7 hours of trekking, although walking time varies depending on the altitude, terrain, and itinerary. The trail can include steep climbs, stone steps, suspension bridges, forest paths, and rocky mountain sections. Your guide maintains a comfortable pace and schedules regular breaks for rest, hydration, and acclimatization.

Lunch is usually taken at a local teahouse along the trail, giving you an opportunity to experience traditional Himalayan meals while enjoying views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, the trail continues toward the next overnight village, with most trekkers arriving around 2:00–4:00 pm.

Evenings are spent relaxing in the teahouse dining room, exploring the village, enjoying conversations with fellow trekkers, or simply taking in the mountain scenery. At higher elevations, evenings can become cold, so the dining room becomes a welcoming place to gather around the stove. Lights-out is usually around 8:30–9:00 pm, preparing you for another day on the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Unreal views every single day

Our guide was incredible — patient, funny, and clearly loved sharing the mountains with us. Doing the Manaslu Circuit Trek — 15 Days was easily the highlight of our year, and the whole trip was better organised than any tour I've done before.

Tough but so worth it

Altitude hit me for a day or two but the team looked after me really well. Would recommend building in an extra rest day if your schedule allows — the scenery makes every step worth it regardless.

Booked solo, left with new friends

Small group, great mix of people, zero drama. HSJ handled every logistic detail so all we had to do was show up, walk, and enjoy it. Already looking at which trip to book next.

Second trip with HSJ, still amazing

Been trekking with this team before and the quality is consistent — good porters, an honest itinerary, no surprise upsells along the way. Can't recommend them enough for anyone considering Nepal.

The food was the surprise

I had braced myself for two weeks of instant noodles and instead ate better than I do at home. Dal bhat every lunch, endless tea, and the teahouses were warmer and cleaner than the photos suggested.
