Rasuwa

Langtang's high ridges and crystal lakes on the roof of Bagmati

Rasuwa is Bagmati Province's high-Himalayan gateway, home to Langtang National Park and the Langtang Valley trek, Nepal's closest major trekking region to Kathmandu.

The district holds Gosaikunda, a sacred alpine lake at 4,380 metres that draws both trekkers and Hindu pilgrims, and borders Tibet through high mountain passes.

Rasuwa's Tamang villages, reached along the Tamang Heritage Trail, add a cultural dimension distinct from the Sherpa-led trekking regions further east.

Culture

People & Culture

Rasuwa is the historic heartland of Tamang communities in Bagmati Province, whose Buddhist gompas and village architecture shape the Tamang Heritage Trail. Gosaikunda holds deep significance for Hindu pilgrims, who trek to its shores each year during the Janai Purnima festival, believing the lake was created by Lord Shiva. The 2015 earthquake caused severe damage and loss of life in Langtang village, and the district's trekking economy has been steadily rebuilding since.
