Makwanpur
Cool forests and Hetauda's calm, the green lungs south of Kathmandu
Makwanpur is a forested hill district south of Kathmandu, home to Hetauda, Bagmati Province's official capital, and Daman, widely regarded as Nepal's finest single Himalayan viewpoint.
Daman's panorama takes in an unbroken sweep of the Himalaya from Dhaulagiri to Everest on a clear day, reached via the winding Tribhuvan Highway.
Nearby Chitlang's quiet valley, tucked into the Chandragiri hills, offers a slower, village-paced alternative closer to the capital.

Culture
People & Culture
Makwanpur is home to Tamang and hill Brahmin/Chhetri communities across its forested ridges, with Hetauda's role as provincial capital drawing a more mixed, urban population. Daman and Chitlang's villages retain traditional Tamang farming practices, and the district's cool, forested hills have long made it a retreat from both the Kathmandu Valley and the Terai heat to its south.
