Tamang Heritage Trail

The Tamang Heritage Trail is a cultural trekking route in Rasuwa District that winds through traditional Tamang villages in the foothills south of the Langtang Valley. The trail offers an immersive experience of Tamang culture, with ancient stone-built villages, monasteries, prayer flags, and mani walls at every turn.Less crowded than the main Langtang trek, the heritage trail provides an authentic insight into the daily lives, customs, and Buddhist traditions of one of Nepal's most distinctive indigenous communities.

The route was laid out in the mid 2000s as a community tourism project and still runs largely on homestays rather than lodges, so the money stays in the villages. Gatlang, Tatopani, Nagthali, Thuman and Briddim are the usual stages, with hot springs at Tatopani and an old fort site above Gatlang. Rasuwa was among the districts worst hit in 2015 and much of what stands has been rebuilt since. It meets the Langtang trail at Syabrubesi, so the two are commonly walked together as one trip of about a fortnight.
