Sindhupalchok

Mountain rivers, hot springs and the sacred trail to Helambu

Sindhupalchok is a mountain district bordering Tibet, home to the lower Langtang Valley approaches, the sacred Helambu valleys and some of Bagmati Province's best whitewater rafting.

Helambu's Sherpa and Hyolmo communities offer a shorter, lower-altitude alternative to Langtang's high trails, reachable within a few days from Kathmandu.

The Indrawati River's gorges provide some of the region's most accessible whitewater rafting, while the district's hot springs draw visitors seeking a slower pace.

Culture

People & Culture

Sindhupalchok is home to Tamang communities across its lower valleys and Hyolmo (Sherpa-related) communities in the higher Helambu region, both following Tibetan Buddhist traditions reflected in the area's gompas and mani walls. The district was among the hardest-hit by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, and reconstruction has reshaped many of its villages in the years since, alongside a steady recovery in trekking and rafting tourism.
