Telangana
Home to Hyderabad's history and biryani
Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, becoming India's newest state at the time, with Hyderabad, a shared capital for both states until 2024, as its permanent seat of government. The city's Golconda Fort and Charminar, built in 1591, reflect over four centuries of Qutb Shahi and Nizam-era Deccani Muslim architecture and culture layered over its older Telugu heritage.
Hyderabad has grown into one of India's leading information-technology centres, its HITEC City district hosting major global tech firms alongside the old city's pearl and bangle markets. Hyderabadi biryani, cooked using a distinctive dum steaming method developed under the Nizams, has become one of India's most internationally recognised regional dishes, and Ramoji Film City near Hyderabad is among the world's largest film studio complexes.
