Nawalparasi West

Chitwan's western wilderness and the tranquil Devghat confluence

Nawalparasi West sits at the western edge of the Chitwan ecosystem, its forests forming a continuous wildlife corridor with Chitwan National Park across the Narayani River.

Devghat, where the Kali Gandaki and Trishuli rivers meet to form the Narayani, is one of Nepal's most sacred river confluences and a long-standing pilgrimage and cremation site.

The district's combination of riverside pilgrimage and forest wilderness sets it apart from Lumbini Province's more purely agricultural Terai districts.

Culture

People & Culture

Nawalparasi West is home to Tharu communities in its forest-edge villages and a wider mix of hill migrant and Terai households along the Narayani. Devghat draws Hindu pilgrims and sadhus for its sacred confluence, believed to hold similar spiritual merit to bathing at more distant holy rivers, making it an important local pilgrimage site rather than a nationally famous one.
