Bardiya

Pristine jungle, Bengal tigers and the authentic wildlife of the west

Bardiya is home to Bardiya National Park, Nepal's largest national park in the Terai and one of its least-visited major wildlife destinations.

The park shelters a resident Bengal tiger population, wild elephants and endangered Gangetic river dolphins in the Karnali and Babai rivers, with far fewer visitors than Chitwan.

Bardiya offers a genuinely wild, less-commercialised safari experience for travellers willing to venture further west than Nepal's more established parks.

Culture

People & Culture

Bardiya is home to a large Tharu population, whose forest-based traditions, longhouses and stick dances predate the national park's establishment. Tharu-run homestays and community forestry programmes around the park have given local communities a direct stake in conservation, an approach credited with helping the park's tiger and rhino populations recover in recent decades.
