Panchthar

Untouched beauty along the pristine ridge of the east

Panchthar is a mid-hill district along a pristine eastern ridge of Koshi Province, sharing the Kanchenjunga foothills' Limbu heritage with neighbouring Taplejung.

Its capital, Phidim, sits on a scenic ridge lined with rhododendron forest and offers open views toward the eastern Himalaya without the permit requirements of the high Kanchenjunga trails.

Panchthar remains one of Koshi's least-visited districts, appealing to travellers seeking untouched hill scenery over marquee trekking routes.

Culture

People & Culture

Panchthar is predominantly home to Limbu communities, who share the Kirat Mundhum spiritual tradition and Limbu language found across the Kanchenjunga foothills. Terraced farming and cardamom cultivation shape much of the district's hillside economy, and traditional Limbu festivals remain central to village life away from the district's few market towns.
