North Region
Mandai wildlife parks, MacRitchie, Sungei Buloh and the Kranji War Memorial
The North Region of Singapore covers eight of the Urban Redevelopment Authority's planning areas, including Woodlands, Yishun, Sembawang, Mandai, Lim Chu Kang and the Central Water Catchment, the forest and reservoir land at the centre of the island. The four Mandai wildlife parks sit here: Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise, which opened on 8 May 2023.
MacRitchie Reservoir, with its 250 m TreeTop Walk suspension bridge and a 10.3 km trail loop, falls inside the Central Water Catchment and so belongs to this region on the URA map. On the north-west coast, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve was Singapore's first ASEAN Heritage Park and receives migratory shorebirds from August to April. The Kranji War Memorial, the Commonwealth cemetery above the Straits of Johor, records more than 24,000 servicemen with no known grave.
