Natural Wonder

Sembawang Hot Spring Park

Singapore's only natural hot spring park, with a four-tier foot bath

Sembawang Hot Spring Park is a 1.1 hectare NParks park along Gambas Avenue near Sembawang, in the Mandai planning area, built around what NParks calls the only natural hot spring park in the country. A municipal ranger came across the spring in 1908 on swampy land owned by the merchant Seah Eng Keong, who began bottling the water in 1909 under the Zombun brand. Fraser & Neave took over the spring in 1921, the Japanese turned the area into thermal baths until a bomb disrupted the outflow in 1944, and in 1985 the government acquired the land to expand Sembawang Air Base. After a redevelopment, NParks reopened the enlarged park on 4 January 2020.

Geothermally heated groundwater reaches a collection point at about 70°C, where visitors fill their own buckets or cook eggs they bring along. Below it the water flows through a four-tiered cascading pool, cooling as it descends, where people sit and soak their feet; that pool closes on Mondays and Thursdays from 11am to 2pm for cleaning. An educational zone explains hot springs and geology, and a floral walk is planted with kampung-style fruit trees and flowers. The park normally opens daily from 7am to 7pm, and NParks has closed it for urgent maintenance works until 30 October 2026. Canberra MRT station is the nearest, and the park has no car park of its own, so the closest one is at 114 Yishun Ring Road, about 450 m away.
