West Region
Bukit Timah, Jurong Lake Gardens and the hill parks of the west
The West Region of Singapore is the largest of the Urban Redevelopment Authority's five planning regions by land, with 12 planning areas from Clementi and Jurong East to Bukit Panjang, Bukit Batok, Tengah and Tuas. On the URA map, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Hindhede Nature Park fall in the Bukit Panjang planning area, so Singapore's highest natural point, Bukit Timah Hill at 163.63 metres, belongs to this region.
Jurong Lake Gardens, completed as national gardens on 8 September 2024, includes the Chinese Garden, which reopened the same day after redevelopment. Science Centre Singapore stays open in Jurong East until its replacement beside Chinese Garden MRT station is ready, targeted for the end of 2027. The summit routes of Bukit Timah, at 1.2 km to 3 km, are the steepest regular practice walk on the island for anyone preparing for a Himalayan trek.
