Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is a 163-hectare rainforest reserve at the end of Hindhede Drive, in URA's Bukit Panjang planning area, and it covers Bukit Timah Hill, at 163.63 metres Singapore's highest natural point. Established in 1883 as the Bukit Timah Forest Reserve, it was declared a nature reserve in 1990 and an ASEAN Heritage Park on 18 October 2011, one of two in Singapore. NParks restricted access from September 2014 to restore slopes, trails and forest, and reopened the reserve in October 2016.

Walks start at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Visitor Centre, and Beauty World MRT station is the nearest station. NParks marks three summit routes from there: Route 1 climbs 1.2 kilometres along the main road, Route 3 takes 1.8 kilometres via South View Path and Cave Path, and Route 4 covers 3 kilometres with a loop towards Dairy Farm after the summit. The reserve is open daily from 7am to 7pm, and pets are not allowed. From 13 July 2026 to March 2028 the Singapore Police Force is removing the two Bukit Timah Repeater Stations near the top; the work site is fenced off, but access to the summit stays open throughout.

For Singapore residents preparing for a Himalayan trek, repeated climbs of Route 1 or the steeper Route 3 are a practical way to build leg strength on graded uphill trails close to home.
