Lamjung

Himalchuli on the horizon and pristine valleys few travellers find

Lamjung sits below Himalchuli and the Annapurna range's eastern flank, a Gurung heartland district that sees far fewer visitors than neighbouring Kaski.

The classic Annapurna Circuit passes through Lamjung's lower valleys, but the district's hidden hilltop villages, including Ghanpokhara, remain largely untouched by the main trekking crowds.

Sundarbazar and the surrounding Gurung villages offer a quieter window into Gandaki Province's hill culture.

People & Culture

Lamjung is a historic heartland of the Gurung people, whose Buddhist and animist Bon-influenced traditions and Gurkha military heritage remain strongly rooted in villages like Ghanpokhara. Terraced farming and seasonal transhumance continue to shape daily life across the district's hills, largely away from the trekking infrastructure found in neighbouring Kaski.
