Jajarkot

Hidden valleys between Kalikot and Rolpa with pristine highland culture

Jajarkot is a hidden highland district in Karnali Province, its valleys sitting between Kalikot and Rolpa in Nepal's remote mid-west.

Khalanga, the district headquarters, sits above the Bheri River valley and serves as the main administrative and market centre for the surrounding hills.

Jajarkot remains one of Karnali's least-documented districts for travellers, its highland culture largely unchanged by outside tourism.

Culture

People & Culture

Jajarkot is home to Khas hill communities alongside Dalit artisan groups whose traditional metalwork and weaving remain part of the district's highland economy. Limited road access has kept much of Jajarkot connected to the outside world primarily through Khalanga and the Bheri River valley, preserving a slower pace of life typical of Karnali's more remote districts.
