Humla
Simikot's sky-high trails and the thrilling Kailash approach through Nepal
Humla is Nepal's far-northwestern district, its Simikot airstrip serving as the main Nepal-side starting point for pilgrims approaching Mount Kailash in Tibet.
The district borders Tibet directly, and its Limi Valley communities maintain centuries-old trading and cultural ties across the Hilsa border crossing.
Humla's extreme remoteness, with no road link to the rest of Nepal until recent years, has kept it among the least-visited districts in the entire country.

People & Culture
Humla is home to Bhotia and Tibetan-influenced communities, particularly in the high Limi Valley, whose Buddhist monasteries and trading heritage connect the district more closely to the Tibetan plateau than to Nepal's mid-hills further south. Simikot's role as the gateway for Nepal-side Kailash pilgrims has brought a small seasonal flow of travellers through an otherwise very isolated district.
