Khalanga Jajarkot

Khalanga is the administrative headquarters of Jajarkot District, perched in the mountains above the Bheri River valley in western Nepal. The town is surrounded by dramatic hill landscapes, terraced fields, and traditional communities of the western Pahad region.Jajarkot District suffered greatly in the 2023 earthquake, and Khalanga serves as the base for recovery efforts and exploration of the district's natural and cultural heritage, including access to highland trekking and the scenic Bheri River corridor.

The earthquake of 3 November 2023 had its epicentre in Jajarkot and was the deadliest in Nepal since 2015. Khalanga stands at about 1,300m and is reached by road from Surkhet or Dailekh. Jajarkot Durbar, the palace of the hill kingdom that ruled here before unification, stands in the town itself and was among the buildings damaged.
