Gateway to Mount Kailash via Nepal's wild west

Simikot is the headquarters of Humla District and the starting point for the sacred trek to Mount Kailash in Tibet — the holiest mountain in the Hindu and Buddhist world. Accessible only by domestic flight, Simikot is one of Nepal's most remote district capitals, sitting at 2,950 metres in a dramatic river valley surrounded by high Himalayan peaks. The trek from Simikot to the Tibet border (Hilsa) passes through the ancient Limi Valley, traditional Tibetan-influenced villages, and some of the most spectacular and least-visited high mountain terrain in the entire Nepal Himalaya.
