Trashigang District
Largest district, gateway to eastern Bhutan
Trashigang District is Eastern Bhutan's largest and most historically significant district, its Trashigang Dzong perched above the Drangme Chhu river on a route that once carried trade between Tibet, Bhutan and Assam. The district remains the main administrative and commercial hub for the whole eastern region.
As the gateway to Eastern Bhutan, Trashigang sits at the meeting point of roads from Mongar and Samdrup Jongkhar toward India's Arunachal Pradesh border.

People & Culture
Trashigang is home to Sharchop communities, Eastern Bhutan's predominant ethnic group, whose language and customs differ from the Ngalop culture of the west. Gom Kora, a sacred site linked to Guru Rinpoche subduing a demon, and Radhi Village, known for its handwoven raw silk textiles, reflect the district's distinct eastern identity.
