Lhuentse District
Ancestral seat of the royal family, remote and traditional
Lhuentse District is the ancestral seat of Bhutan's royal family, the birthplace of the Wangchuck dynasty, and one of the most traditional, least-visited districts in the country. Lhuentse Dzong overlooks the Kuri Chhu river valley, while Khoma Village is famed nationally for weaving kishuthara, considered Bhutan's finest hand-woven textile.
North of Mongar in Eastern Bhutan, Lhuentse's remoteness has helped preserve textile traditions found nowhere else in Bhutan.

People & Culture
Khoma's weavers produce kishuthara, an intricately patterned silk brocade considered the pinnacle of Bhutanese textile art, with pieces taking months to complete and commanding high prices domestically. Lhuentse's status as the royal family's ancestral home gives the district a ceremonial significance beyond its small population.
