Radhi Village

Radhi lies east of Trashigang in a broad, fertile valley, and is known for two things that go together. It grows red rice on terraced fields, which is why the valley is sometimes called the rice bowl of the east, and it weaves.

The cloth here is bura, raw silk, and nearly every household has a loom. Women weave at home rather than in a workshop, and visitors are usually welcome to watch and to buy directly from the weaver. The combination of paddy and textile is what makes the detour worth it: this is farming country that happens to produce some of the finest cloth in Bhutan.
