Tsirang District

Bhutan's youngest district, known for citrus orchards

Tsirang District is Bhutan's youngest district, formally established in 1988, and is known nationally for its citrus orchards, which produce a large share of Bhutan's oranges. Damphu, the district headquarters, sits on a hillside amid the terraced orange groves that define the local landscape.

Bordering Sarpang in the southern foothills of Central Bhutan, Tsirang shares a similar warm, mid-hill climate suited to fruit farming.

Culture

People & Culture

Tsirang is home to a largely Lhotshampa farming community whose orange orchards and hillside terraces have become central to the district's identity since its formal establishment in the late 1980s. The district remains one of the least-visited by tourists, its economy and culture built around agriculture rather than the monastic heritage found further north.
