Damphu Town

Damphu is the administrative headquarters of Tsirang, Bhutan's youngest district, and sits on the north south highway that runs from Wangdue Phodrang down to Sarpang and Gelephu on the Indian border. That road is the reason the town exists in the form it does.

Tsirang is middle hill country rather than high Himalaya: terraced slopes, citrus orchards and a climate mild enough to grow oranges, with none of the snow that shapes the north. Most travellers pass through rather than stop, on the way between the interior and the southern border, and the town is small enough to see from the road.
