Dagana District

Hilly southwestern district with dense forests

Dagana District is a hilly, densely forested district in southwestern Bhutan, centred on the historic Daga Dzong, perched on a ridge above the surrounding valleys. Its rugged terrain and limited road access have kept Dagana one of Bhutan's more isolated districts, despite sitting on the country's southern edge.

West of Tsirang within Central Bhutan's southern foothills, Dagana connects toward Bhutan's southwestern border areas.

People & Culture

Dagana's scattered hill villages practise subsistence farming across steep, forested terrain, with limited infrastructure keeping the district among the least developed for tourism in Bhutan. Daga Dzong remains an active administrative and religious centre for the surrounding rural population.
