Ramagrama Stupa
Last undisturbed stupa of the original Buddha relics
Ramagrama Stupa is one of the eight original stupas built over the relics of the Buddha after his parinirvana (death) and the only one that has never been excavated or disturbed. Located in Nawalparasi District, the modest earthen mound is considered one of the most sacred sites in all of Buddhism for this reason.Emperor Ashoka reportedly attempted to excavate the stupa for relics but was deterred by the Naga serpent king who protected it. The unassuming site, surrounded by peaceful countryside, carries enormous spiritual weight for Buddhist pilgrims who visit this undisturbed relic of the ancient Buddhist world.
