FAQs

Chitwan is the gentlest way into Nepal's wild side, and this premium package makes it a comfortable one. You spend your first night at Hotel Barahi Kathmandu, a premium 4-star hotel on Kantipath, then three nights at the 5-star Kasara Resort at Patihani on the edge of Chitwan National Park, where jeep safaris, canoes on the Rapti and jungle walks start from the property.

The park covers about 952 square kilometres of sal forest, tall grassland and river along the Rapti, Narayani and Reu. It holds most of Nepal's greater one-horned rhinos, with 694 counted in the 2021 census, and the 2026 tiger census found about 145 tigers in the park and its buffer zone. Those numbers improve your odds. They do not promise a sighting, and we will never pretend they do.

Your days follow the park's own rules. A guided jeep safari heads into the core zone in season, a dugout canoe drifts along the Rapti where crocodiles bask on the banks, and a jungle walk with licensed guides puts you on the ground. We do not include elephant-back rides. They have not been allowed inside the park for about 15 years, and in December 2025 Nepal's Supreme Court told the government to reconsider elephant riding for tourists on welfare grounds.

Between outings there is room to breathe: early birdwatching with a naturalist, a free afternoon by the resort's outdoor pool or in its spa, and a Tharu cultural evening if one is running, a chance to meet the indigenous people of these lowlands.

This is a premium package with premium 4-star hotels and the 5-star Kasara Resort in Chitwan, a dedicated guide and an air-conditioned vehicle with a professional driver, arranged for your own party on dates you choose. Your quotation confirms the meal plan, whether you reach Chitwan by road or by domestic flight and road, and the park fees, and the price is quoted on request.

Arrive in Kathmandu

Max 1,400 m

Tribhuvan International Airport → Kathmandu

Short transfer to the hotel

Hotel Barahi Kathmandu

Your safari begins at Changi Airport: SQ442, recently timed for about 18:50, is the five-hour Singapore Airlines nonstop to Kathmandu. Your guide meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport around 21:30 Nepal time, then an air-conditioned vehicle carries you to Kantipath and Hotel Barahi Kathmandu, premium 4-star, for your only night in the city.

At roughly 1,400 metres the valley air turns cooler after dark than anything Singapore offers, reason enough to pack a light jumper where you can reach it. After check-in there is nothing more to do tonight. Rest well, because tomorrow you travel south to the lowland forests of Chitwan, a very different climate from the valley.

Summary: Evening SQ442 from Changi, a late landing and transfer to Hotel Barahi Kathmandu, then sleep ahead of tomorrow's run down to the Chitwan jungle.

Breakfast

After breakfast, head south to Chitwan National Park in the inner Terai lowlands. Your quotation confirms the route: usually five to seven hours by road with traffic leaving the valley, or a flight of about 25 minutes to Bharatpur and a short drive. Journey's end is Patihani, where the 5-star Kasara Resort sits at the park's edge with your villa.

Chitwan was Nepal's first national park, founded in 1973 and listed by UNESCO in 1984, and its 952 square kilometres of forest and grassland run along the Rapti River. Late in the day, if the resort offers it and park rules allow, take a short nature walk or watch the light fade over the river with your first sounds of the jungle. Lowland evenings are warm and humid, so insect repellent and long sleeves help.

Summary: Down to the Terai by road or via a Bharatpur flight; three nights at the 5-star Kasara Resort in Patihani begin, with dusk on the Rapti if a walk is offered.

Hotel Barahi stands on Kantipath, a minute's walk from the Garden of Dreams and three from Durbar Marg. That puts Thamel close enough to walk into on a first evening and far enough back to sleep through.

There are 80 rooms, among them three junior suites and six that interconnect for families. The Deck, on the roof, serves Nepali and international food beside the pool with the city below and the hills behind it, and there is a spa for the evening a trek ends.

Patihani-2, Chitwan

Patihani-2, Chitwan

Kasara sits at Patihani on the edge of Chitwan National Park, the UNESCO-listed grassland and sal forest where Nepal's rhino and tiger actually live. The park boundary is the point: jeep safaris, canoes on the Rapti, jungle walks and birdwatching all start from the property rather than from a drive away.

Rooms are villas rather than corridors. The deluxe villas run to about 130 square metres each, with a private water-garden courtyard, a bathroom that opens to the outside, and a sun deck that can be laid for dinner on its own. Two family villas add three bedrooms and a private infinity plunge pool looking into the forest.

There is an outdoor pool, a spa, and kitchens that cook from the resort's own fruit and vegetables and from what the villages nearby grow. Evenings tend to end with a Tharu cultural performance rather than a bar.

FAQs

Is this trip right for you

This is a short wildlife break, not an expedition. You spend three nights at the 5-star Kasara Resort beside Chitwan National Park, and the activities are guided, seated or slow-paced: a jeep safari, early birdwatching, and optional canoe trips or jungle walks if the park and your naturalist recommend them. If you can sit on a bumpy track for a few hours and enjoy an early start, you can do this trip.

It suits first-time safari travellers, couples and anyone with limited leave who wants a real taste of the jungle without long road days. If you would like mountains and lakes as well, our 7-day trip adds Pokhara. If you are a keen wildlife traveller who wants a remoter park, our 9-day trip adds Bardiya in the far west.

Wildlife is wild. We cannot promise a tiger, a rhino or any particular animal, and anyone who does is not being straight with you. What we can promise is time in good habitat with a naturalist who knows it well, which is the thing that actually improves your chances.

Know Before You Go

Your quotation names your hotels: Hotel Barahi Kathmandu, premium 4-star, and the 5-star Kasara Resort in Chitwan. It also confirms, in writing, the meal plan, whether you travel to Chitwan by road or by domestic flight and road, which guided activities are included, and which park permits and entrance fees are covered. If something is not in the quotation, assume it is not included and ask us.

Chitwan's activities follow park rules. Jeep safaris run inside the park in the dry season and are suspended for the monsoon, from 1 July in 2026 until about the third week of September, while some safaris continue in buffer-zone community forests. Jungle walks go out with licensed guides, and canoe trips use dugouts on the Rapti River. We do not include elephant-back rides.

Pack muted, neutral clothing for activities, a warm layer for early mornings from November to February, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and binoculars if you have them. Nepal's currency is the Nepalese rupee, and cash is useful for tips and small purchases.

Visas & Entry to Nepal

Singapore passport holders need a visa for Nepal, and Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that a tourist visa can be obtained on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. Nepal's embassies list the on-arrival fees as USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days and USD 125 for 90 days. A trip of five days fits comfortably inside the 15-day visa.

Your passport should be valid for at least six months. You can fill in the arrival form online on Nepal's immigration portal within 15 days before you fly and bring the printed barcode, or use the self-service kiosks in the arrivals hall. Carry the visa fee in clean US dollar notes, because cash is the simplest way to pay at the counter.

The visa fee is not part of the trip price. Fees and rules can change at short notice, so we send an up-to-date checklist with your confirmation, and we recommend a final check with the Nepal Consulate in Singapore before you travel.

Flights from Singapore

Singapore Airlines flies nonstop between Changi and Kathmandu, a flight of about five hours. The current schedule leaves Singapore in the evening and lands at Tribhuvan International Airport in the late evening, which is why Day 1 is an arrival and a quiet night rather than a day of sightseeing. Connecting options through other Asian hubs also exist if they suit your dates better.

The return service currently leaves Kathmandu late at night and reaches Changi early the next morning. That usually leaves time for the journey back from Chitwan on the last day, but we never plan a tight same-day connection. If your flight leaves earlier, or the domestic leg looks fragile, we add a night in Kathmandu instead.

International flights are not included, and airline schedules change seasonally, so please send us your flight details before you book them. We build the itinerary around your arrival and departure times rather than the other way round.

Health & Comfort

Chitwan lies in Nepal's lowland Terai, far below Kathmandu, so altitude is not a concern on this trip. Heat is the bigger factor in the lowlands: April and May can reach the mid-40s Celsius, while December and January bring cool, misty mornings. Drink plenty of water and plan for both.

Mosquitoes and other insects are part of jungle life, especially around dusk and after rain. Speak to your doctor or a travel clinic in Singapore well before you travel about vaccinations and any malaria advice for the Terai, and bring repellent and long sleeves for evenings.

Jeep tracks are rough and dusty, so tell us about any back or mobility concerns. On walks and river trips, follow your guides' instructions at all times, because wildlife safety depends on it. Travel insurance that covers medical evacuation is strongly recommended.

Culture & Etiquette

The Tharu are an indigenous people of Nepal's Terai, and their villages sit close to the lowland parks. Tharu cultural programmes, including the stick dance, have been performed for visitors in Sauraha for decades. They are a performance, but a genuine one, and they help support local cultural groups.

Ask before photographing people, especially in villages, and dress modestly away from your hotel. Inside the parks, keep voices low, never feed or approach animals, and stay with your guides. Neutral clothing helps you blend in, and patience nearly always brings better sightings than chasing them.

Tipping is customary in Nepal for guides, naturalists and drivers. Your guide can advise on sensible amounts, and tips are never included in the trip price.

Our Support

Your dedicated guide is with you from arrival to departure, and in Chitwan a qualified local naturalist leads the wildlife activities. Our Kathmandu team stays in touch throughout and can be reached if anything changes.

We watch domestic flight schedules, road conditions and park notices for you. If a flight is cancelled, a road is disrupted or a park changes its activity rules, we adjust the plan and tell you why. Your quotation sets out the accommodation, meal plan, transport, activities and permits, so you always know what you have booked.
