Sacred pond linked to the Ramayana
Dhanusa Kunda is a sacred pond in Dhanusha District, believed to be the spot where the broken pieces of Lord Shiva's bow fell after Lord Ram snapped it. It is an important pilgrimage site within the greater Janakpur Dham religious circuit.Pilgrims perform ritual bathing in the kunda (pond) during auspicious occasions, and the site is enveloped in a serene spiritual atmosphere year-round.
The pond sits inside the Dhanushadham complex about 20km northeast of Janakpur, and is usually seen in the same hour as the bow stone at Dhanushadham rather than on its own. The country around it is Mithila, where house walls are still painted for weddings, and the crowds here peak at Vivah Panchami in November or December.
