Ruins of Kapilavastu — home of the young Siddhartha
Tilaurakot is an archaeological site in Rupandehi District identified as the ancient capital of Kapilavastu, the kingdom where the young Siddhartha Gautama (the future Buddha) grew up as a prince before renouncing the world. The excavated ruins of the royal palace, eastern and western gates, and city walls span an area dating back to the 7th century BCE.The site holds immense significance for Buddhist pilgrims and historians as the place where the future Buddha lived his first 29 years, learning of human suffering before embarking on the path of enlightenment. It is part of the extended Lumbini pilgrimage circuit.
