The palace and museum of the historic Palpa kingdom
Palpa Durbar (Tansen Palace) is the former royal palace of the Palpa kingdom, built in the late 19th century and now serving as a museum in the heart of Tansen town. The palace's distinctive architecture blends Newari and Rana styles, and the museum within documents the history, art, and material culture of the Palpa kingdom and the surrounding region. The Durbar Square around the palace is the social and cultural heart of Tansen, surrounded by traditional merchant houses, temples, and the famous Baggi Dhara water spout that is a masterwork of traditional Newari brass craftsmanship.
