Timbung / Olangchung Gola

An ancient Tibetan trading village at the top of the world

Olangchung Gola (also called Khandebassi or Lungthung) is a remote high-altitude village near the Tibetan border in northern Taplejung, historically one of the most important trans-Himalayan salt trading posts of eastern Nepal. At over 3,600 metres, the village preserves a distinctive Tibetan-influenced culture with unique architecture, ancient gompas, and a community of Walung Sherpa traders whose ancestors conducted the legendary salt-for-grain exchange across the Nangma La pass. It remains one of the most authentically untouched border communities in Nepal.
