Ulleri

Ulleri is a Gurung and Magar village at 1,960m reached by a famously steep climb of more than 3,000 stone steps up from Tikhedhunga, through lush rhododendron forest. It's the first overnight stop for most trekkers heading to Ghorepani and Poon Hill, and one of the toughest single climbs on the whole route despite its modest final elevation.

The staircase up from Tikhedhunga is the single hardest hour or two on the Poon Hill route, and it is far worse in the middle of the day than at either end of it. A road now reaches Ulleri from the Birethanti side, so some parties are driven up and begin walking here, skipping the steps altogether. Above the village the gradient eases into forest, and Banthanti is the usual lunch stop on the way to Ghorepani.
