Namobuddha

Namobuddha is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal, located on a forested hilltop in Kavrepalanchok District. According to Buddhist legend, a compassionate prince, a previous incarnation of the Buddha, offered his own body to a starving tigress and her cubs at this very spot.The site features a beautiful stupa, a thriving monastery complex with monks in residence, and sweeping views of the Himalayan foothills, making it both a deeply spiritual and visually rewarding destination.

The monastery on the hill is Thrangu Tashi Yangtse, a large Kagyu institution built from the 1970s onward, and several hundred monks study there; visitors may watch the afternoon prayers. The older stupa marking the spot of the legend stands a short climb above it. Namobuddha is about 40km from Kathmandu and is most often walked to from Panauti or Balthali in two to three hours, which is a far better approach than the road.
