Gauri Shankar
A twin-summited sacred peak in the Rolwaling Himal, named for Shiva and Parvati.
Gauri Shankar rises to 7,134m in Dolakha district, about 100km northeast of Kathmandu, and is the second highest peak of the Rolwaling Himal. Its two summits are named Gauri, after the Hindu goddess Parvati, and Shankar, after her consort Shiva.
The mountain holds sacred status for Hindus in Nepal, and gives its name to the Gauri Shankar Conservation Area that protects the surrounding Rolwaling region.
