Charikot and Jiri are the main town hubs of Dolakha District, historically famous as the old trekking gateway to the Everest region before domestic flights became common. The classic Jiri to Everest Base Camp route, walked by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's support team, starts from Jiri and passes through Charikot.The region is dotted with Buddhist monasteries, Sherpa and Tamang villages, and offers access to the spectacular Rolwaling Valley and Tsho Rolpa glacial lake.
