Southern Ridges
10 km of linked hill parks from Mount Faber to Kent Ridge
The Southern Ridges is a 10 km chain of green spaces in south-west Singapore that, according to NParks, connects Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, HortPark and Kent Ridge Park. Elevated walkways and bridges join the parks, the best known being Henderson Waves, a 274 m pedestrian bridge that stands 36 m above Henderson Road and was officially opened on 10 May 2008. The ridges belong to NParks' Labrador Nature Park Network, which covers more than 200 hectares.
NParks' walking guide rates the full route as moderate to challenging and allows 3 to 5 hours. Its Route A starts at HarbourFront MRT station, climbs the Marang Trail to Mount Faber, crosses Henderson Waves, follows the 1.3 km elevated Forest Walk through Telok Blangah Hill Park, passes the 80 m Alexandra Arch and HortPark, and ends on the Canopy Walk in Kent Ridge Park. Some paths are under works: a section of the Mount Faber Loop footpath has been closed since 14 January 2025 after a slope failure, and a footpath below the Therapeutic Garden at Telok Blangah Hill Park has been closed for slope works since 13 June 2025, with completion expected by 31 March 2028.
For Singapore residents preparing for a Himalayan trek, the ridges offer what flat neighbourhoods cannot: repeated climbs, long staircases and several hours on foot. Walking the whole route in the boots and daypack you plan to take abroad tests both, though 100 m hills cannot prepare you for altitude.
