Kent Ridge Park

WWII battle site at the western end of the Southern Ridges

View all 3 photos

Kent Ridge Park is a 47-hectare hill park off South Buona Vista Road in south-west Singapore, at the western end of the Southern Ridges. NParks notes that one of the last battles for Singapore in the Second World War was fought here: the Battle of Pasir Panjang, in which soldiers of the Malay Regiment held the ridge. The fight is remembered at Reflections at Bukit Chandu, a Second World War interpretive centre next to the park that covers the battle, the soldiers involved and the history of the hill.

The park's best-known feature is the Canopy Walk, a 280 m boardwalk that runs through secondary forest at tree-top level and links the park to Reflections at Bukit Chandu. NParks' Southern Ridges walking guide uses the Canopy Walk as the finishing point of its 10 km route from Mount Faber, so many walkers arrive here at the end of a long day. Mountain biking is allowed on designated trails, which are closed to hikers and joggers. The park is open 24 hours; the nearest MRT stations are Kent Ridge and Pasir Panjang, and car parks are on Vigilante Drive and Pepys Road. NParks lists only Tembusu Grove and the Canopy Walk as wheelchair accessible.

For Himalayan trek preparation, starting a full Southern Ridges traverse here and walking east to Mount Faber puts the hardest climbs at the end, when legs are already tired.
