Dadeldhura

Rolling hills and rhododendron forests in Nepal's far-western highlands

Dadeldhura is a hill district in Sudurpashchim Province, its rolling ridgelines covered in rhododendron forest between roughly 1,500 and 2,000 metres.

Ugratara Temple, dedicated to a fierce form of the goddess, is one of the far-west's most important regional pilgrimage sites, drawing worshippers from across Sudurpashchim.

Khalanga, the district headquarters, serves as the area's main administrative and market town amid otherwise sparsely populated highland terrain.

Culture

People & Culture

Dadeldhura shares Sudurpashchim's wider Doteli-speaking cultural sphere, with Chhetri and Thakuri communities predominant across its hill villages. Ugratara Temple's pilgrimage traffic makes it one of the district's few points of regular outside visitation, while the surrounding countryside remains largely dependent on terraced farming and pine forest.
