Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve covers 175 sq km of the Koshi River floodplain in eastern Nepal and is one of Asia's most important wetland bird sanctuaries. Listed as a Ramsar site, the reserve hosts over 500 bird species including rare migrants and is the last habitat of the wild Asian water buffalo (arna) in Nepal. The wetlands attract massive flocks of migratory waterbirds each winter, including tens of thousands of ducks, waders, and herons. Jeep safaris, dugout canoe rides, and bird hides allow close observation of gangetic dolphins, gharial crocodiles, and over 20 mammal species.
