Island Peak Climbing

Island Peak (Imja Tse, 6,189 m) earned its evocative name from Eric Shipton's 1952 expedition, which noted how the peak rose like an island from the surrounding glaciers when viewed from Dingboche. Today it is the most climbed trekking peak in Nepal, offering a genuine high-altitude mountaineering experience to fit trekkers with basic snow and crampon training. The standard south face route involves a glacier crossing, fixed ropes, and a steep headwall before the summit ridge. A permit, climbing gear, and a licensed guide are mandatory.
