Halesi Mahadev

Halesi Mahadev (also known as Halesi Tuwachung) is a complex of dramatic limestone caves in Khotang District revered simultaneously by Hindus as an abode of Lord Shiva and by Buddhists as the meditation cave of Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). The main cave contains a natural Shivalingam worshipped as one of the holiest Shiva shrines in Nepal, rivalling Pashupatinath in religious significance for many devotees. The site draws pilgrims year-round, with the largest gatherings during Shivaratri and Janai Purnima. The surrounding village has basic guesthouses and the journey involves scenic hill roads from Diktel.
