Diktel is the headquarters of Khotang District, perched at around 1,500 metres among pine and rhododendron forests in the mid-hills of eastern Nepal. A quiet and unpretentious hill town, Diktel serves as the base for visiting Halesi Mahadev cave temple and exploring the surrounding countryside. The town's weekly market draws in locals from surrounding villages, and the surrounding forests are rich in bird life and seasonal wildflowers. Diktel is reachable by road from Okhaldhunga and Salleri and offers basic but comfortable lodging for travellers passing through.
