Attraction
Ilam Tea Garden
Nepal's most celebrated tea estate draped across emerald hillsides
The Ilam Tea Garden is the largest and most famous tea-growing area in Nepal, stretching across the misty hills of Ilam District at elevations between 1,000 and 2,200 metres. Established in 1863, Ilam produces some of the finest first-flush orthodox teas in Asia, comparable in quality to Darjeeling teas across the border in India. Visitors can walk through rows of perfectly sculpted tea bushes, observe the plucking and processing in the local factories, and sip fresh brew with a panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga range. The town of Ilam serves as a base with comfortable homestays and local tea shops.
