Dovan

Dovan (2,600m) is a small teahouse stop further up the Modi Khola gorge from Bamboo, still within forest cover before the trail opens up toward Himalaya Hotel and Deurali as the valley narrows on approach to the Annapurna Sanctuary.

The gorge here is so tight that the sun reaches the lodges for only a few hours a day and the air stays damp. This is also where the avalanche risk begins in winter and spring: the slopes above the stretch from Dovan through Himalaya to Deurali shed snow, and guides move parties through early in the morning for that reason. There are only a handful of lodges, so in high season they fill by mid afternoon.
