Bamboo

Bamboo (2,310m) takes its name from the dense stands of bamboo and rhododendron forest surrounding it in the steep-sided Modi Khola gorge, one of the lusher, more sheltered stops on the way up to the Annapurna Sanctuary, popular with grazing langur monkeys.

There is no village here in the ordinary sense, only a line of lodges built for the trail, which is true of most stops between Chhomrong and the Sanctuary. The descent into Bamboo from Sinuwa is steep and slippery in the wet, and leeches are common on this stretch through the monsoon. Himalayan langur are often on the path early in the morning. The lodges are unheated and the gorge turns cold as soon as the sun leaves it.
