Kurjey Lhakhang

A temple complex built around a cave where Guru Rinpoche is said to have left a body imprint after subduing a local demon.

There are three temples in the row, built in 1652, 1900 and 1990, the oldest enclosing the rock said to carry the imprint the name refers to, and a wall of 108 chortens runs around the compound. The first three kings of Bhutan are memorialised here, which makes this the closest thing the dynasty has to a family shrine. A large cypress behind the temples is said to have grown from Guru Rinpoche's staff. It stands in the Chamkhar valley near Jambay Lhakhang, below Jakar Dzong.
